How I Made This Website

Just a quick summary, I used AstroJS and Tailwind to make the website and external stuff like Squoosh to optimize images and Google Fonts for well, fonts.
For the website structuring part I used AstroJS instead of plain HTML which is a really cool static site generator which allows you to create super fast and performant websites. It’s pretty easy to use since you spend most of the time writing plain HTML but this time you write HTML in .astro files. There’s a whole lot of cool things AstroJS can do which just makes your life easier hnoestly. The coolest thing is that you can write a bunch of Javascript at the top of an .astro file by enclosing it in --- (Also known as the frontmatter). And AstroJS, since it’s an static site generator, runs your Javascript and converts as much as it can into plain HTML so your website is shipped with little to no Javascript which makes your site really fast of course. If you know HTML then you should absolutely check it out, it’s pretty cool.
For styling the site I used Tailwind. The utility classes are just super convenient and it’s nice that I can drop down to using plain CSS whenever I want and such. It’s honestly super easy to use and I can just quickly style my site which is awesome. It took me almost no time to make my website look good on all screens thanks to Tailwind with it’s responsive utility classes and all. If you can write CSS you can absolutely get into Tailwind, it’ll feel odd at first but I promise you’ll get used to it and maybe appreciate it too someday. Honestly the best thing ever for web developers.
Now for hosting I used Cloudflare pages. It’s absolutely more complicated to use compared to stuff like Vercel, Netlify or Github pages and all but the free tier is amazing with lots of cool features and stuff. The performance is also amazing, global CDNs are cool and all, free traffic. I know I’ll never use most of these benefits making it essentially useless, but I love the scalability and now that I have Cloudflare pages all figured out and all with CI/CD and everything I have no reason to leave it for something else.
For the images, I used Squoosh to optimize the images by resizing and compressing them. It’s completely free and super easy to use and you can optimize images to the max easily I love it. I got my fonts from Google Fonts of course because that’s probably the best place to get your hands on fonts.
I suck at web design honestly but I jumped straight into coding my site and figured out what looked best for me. I also looked at a bunch of cool sites hosted on Neocities to get some ideas and be inspired and all. I tried my best okay? And now I’m pretty happy with what I have honestly.
And yeah that’s pretty much it. Thanks for reading! Until next time ya’ll.
